Our Humble Abode II

6 months ago... our house looked like this, after getting a free makeover early this year... I'm now happy to say that it looked even better. Not that we didn't encounter headaches because we did.  Renovations should only take 2 months but due to some problems with the contractor... it took more than 6 months and in the end my mom had to enlist our handy man Kuya Ador's help to finish the house because my mom (being Chinese and all) didn't want us to be moving on July-August(which would be the case at the rate the contractor was going) because for the Chinese those months are called "ghost months". In Chinese traditions, it's a no-no to move, enter into business... and do all sorts of stuffs during those months.

When I saw the house for what it could become and after everything got tidied up, I couldn't believe that I even cried on my husband's shoulder when my mom said they're renovating the place. As I've often said in some of my write ups, I'm no good with change...I could get really sentimental in terms of things that I grew up with, things that I designed, things where Yonky grew up in... but God convicted me in one of my devotions that...(yeah they're just things)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
 -Matthew 6:19

Since then, I can only look forward living back to the renovated house but the wait became long and tedious. Not until before Dada left for Korea this July, our humble abode started to feel like home again.  The maid's room downstairs was tore down because they'll now move to the attic since we've stopped renting out the room when the renovations started last January. Hence, the ground floor now have enough space for Yonky to play in and my parents already evicted Yonky's study area and toys from their house.

the living room

My mom wanted me to change the sofa but since I feel it is still in good condition and it's a good wood plus it has sentimental value because it used to be Yonky's makeshift changing area when he was still a babe =), I decided to just keep it. I don't want to spend unnecessarily (oops but the clock on the upper right is one of the exceptions... looks lovely right?! hehhe) unless I have to. The wall color isn't my choice as it was sooo white so I just balanced it with some accessories. Plus, I'm so fond of pictures and of my family so I always wanted our gorgeous pictures stuck to the wall for everyone to see. The entertainment wall on the other hand(lower left above) is still bare and waiting for a giveaway flat-screen TV(hoping *wink) and components. My mom didn't agree on this one as she said the design was very outdated but believe me the design that I've provided and the contractor signed prior to renovating looks nothing like that although I do want a lot of storage in my house. Blame it from me watching and loving a lot of lifestyle and design shows... I desire to maximize each and every corner of the house to make sure enough storage are available. I do share old stuffs and clothes to our househelps whenever they started to overpower the house but still accumulated items could still grow.

dining and kitchen

The dining table (upper right above) was just a surprised... my initial preference if I would buy one is circle but my mom made an emergency purchase for relative's use when Ate got married since they stayed in the house even though it wasn't yet finished that time. The kitchen looks fabulous IMAO, the interior designer at least listened to my color choice for the laminated cabinets (brown) but the new semi-electric/semi-gas stove isn't still working as of writing and we still need to coordinate that one with ELBA because the contractor didn't test and finish the installation before we decided that Kuya Ador will finish the left-overs.

Master Bedroom

We didn't change much on the master bedroom except for the shelf/study/TV area which they fixed securely to the wall; and the right wall which was extended to make the room look more spacious. The bay window seating area that I've requested wasn't completed though and we're still currently canvassing for customized cushions and interesting pillows for that. Wall color was my choice after getting approval from my husband because the previous color was kinda masculine and this time I wanted the room to have the "romantic" feel because I read from one marriage book that if I only have a budget to renovate one room in the house, it should be the master bedroom. Mommy wanted me to change the bed because it was just queen size and has old style and in fact I was already eyeing an extra-size low white bed (japanese style) but I'm still hesitating on the cost and din't want the current bed to be put to waste. So we'll see...

What I love designing the most is the bathroom. After living independently my whole college years and living in the US for a while, I became really meticulous and hate sloppy bathroom users because I only wanted the shower area to be wet and not the rest like how it is in hotels and in the houses abroad. I also wanted everything accessible and classy so when I accessorized it, I imagined precisely how I would use the bathroom then bought and put some things to make everything comfortable and efficient.

I could honestly say that even though mom's house next door look more expensive, I still like our home better... not because it's new but because it has more character. I also like the living area's lighting better in our home than theirs... more bright, young and more us... hence even though Ms. Marge didn't complete the entire house, I'd still thank her for her idea and design.

I truly hope our dgroup leader could visit and say a blessing of prayer for our home and most especially for the ones living here.

TO JESUS CHRIST...who makes all things possible, we offer this blessing back to THEE.
